SUMMARY OR ABSTRACT
Text of Note
The present study aimed to explore the Iranian EFL learners perceptions of learner groupings across elementary, intermediate and advanced proficiency levels. Also, it was attempted to investigate the relationships between the three constructs of group interaction, class interaction, and class satisfaction across different proficiency level. The participants were 60 Iranian EFL learners in three proficiency levels of Elementary, Intermediate and Advanced, both male and female in 6 different classes. An anonymous paper-and-pencil survey questionnaire was administered. The questionnaire was composed of 15 five-point Likert-scale items including three sections to explore students perception of group interaction, class interaction and overall class satisfaction. The results of descriptive statistics showed that all EFL students who participated in the study in all three proficiency levels had positive perception of collaborative learning; more than 85 of elementary students, more than 90 of intermediate students, and more than 85 of advanced students had a positive perception of learners grouping experience. Also, the correlational analysis showed that among all three proficiency levels, there is a significant relationship between the three constructs of group interaction, class interaction, and class satisfaction at the 0.05 significance level minimally. The results of this study have some main implications for administrators and policy makers, EFL teachers and instructional designers.
