Bahaeddin Şakir (Bahāʾ al-Dīn Şākir, 1290/1873?-1922) was a leading member of the İttihat ve Terakki Cemiyeti (İttiḥād ve Teraqqī Cemiyyeti, Committee of Union and Progress, CUP), who played a major role in laying the groundwork for the Young Turk Revolution of 1908. He was born in Istanbul, to parents who had migrated from İslimiye (Sliven), in today's Bulgaria. He graduated from the Mekteb-i Tıbbiye-i Şahane (Royal Medical Academy) in 1312/1896 with the highest honours. Although he joined the underground CUP while attending the
