cultural differences, too. The findings in this study may be helpful in providing language teachers and learners with insight and ideas on similarities and differences between opening and closing telephone conversations in English and Persian. The data may be used as a comparative tool to teach English to speakers of Persian if it is used in a supplementary comparative/contrastive fashion in conjunction with the English data they need to learn-taking and terminal exchange sections but there were differences as to what these sections were composed of. The study concluded by suggesting that although there were similarities between English and Persian personal telephone conversation openings and closings, there existed inter-closing and leave-you sequences. Regarding telephone conversation closings, in Persian as in English, there were pre-are-answer and identification/recognition sequences were similar in English and Persian but there were some differences in greeting and how-The purpose of this study was to investigate the similarities and differences between personal telephone conversation openings and closings in English and Persian. To this end, the study employed a mixed design, descriptive and quantitative. Data for this study were obtained from English and Persian movies and TV series. Personal telephone conversations between family members, close relatives and friends in the movies and TV series were transcribed and analyzed under CA framework. The findings suggested that telephone conversation openings in Persian as in English consisted of four sections and that summons.
