Abstract: Recently, a lot of research are being done in order to improve and develop steels with high mechanical properties. TRIP steel (Transformation Induced Plasticity) is one of the most important advanced high strength steels (AHSS), which, due to having a suitable set of strength and wear resistance, can be used in the manufacture of various industrial parts and even as sheets. The purpose of this research is to investigate the effect of temperature and time of TRIP heat treatment on the microstructure and wear resistance of steel with chemical composition of Fe-0.2 w.t% C-2 w.t% Mn-1.5 w.t% Si- 0.055 w.t% Nb. To facilitate alloying and to minimize the percentage of losses and obtain a homogeneous structure, all the alloying elements were added to the steel in the form of ferroalloys. The said alloy was melted and cast in a vacuum induction melting furnace at a temperature of 1650˚C and casted and then subjected to homogenization at a temperature of 1200˚C under an argon atmosphere for three hours. The homogenized ingot after cooling in the furnace, was cut into 20 ×10 × 10 mm dimensions by wire cutters in order to prepare wear samples. TRIP treatment was performed on the wear samples to optimize the aging temperature, aging time and austeniting temperature. The samples were examined in terms of microstructure by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and in terms of phase analysis using XRD method. The mechanical properties of the samples were investigated using hardness tests and wear tests using the block-on-ring method. According to the retained austenite volume percentage, weight loss and hardness of the samples, temperature of 410˚C, the time of 500s and the temperature of 910˚C were determined as the optimal aging temperature, the optimal aging time and the optimal austeniting temperature for the TRIP process, respectively. With increasing temperature and aging time, the amount of retained austenite increased, and then due to supersaturation of austenite with carbon, the volume fraction of retained austenite decreased. The optimal sample has a retained austenite volume fraction of 24.54% and a hardness of 340 HV.
