The vase life of cut flowers is the most important quality factors for their handling. It is most likely that carbohydrate limitation reduces vase life of cut flowers, thus, it should be possible to increase vase life of cut flowers if we can supply exogenous carbohydrates such as sucrose. In addition, calcium is an important component in plants cell wall and membrane structure, which play a major role in plant growth and development and in delaying the senescence of cut flowers. An experiment was carried out to find the effects of foliar application of sucrose and calcium on the quality of two cvs "Black Magic" and "Red Star". The experiment was arranged in a randomized complete block design with three replicates. The treatments were sucrose (0, 20, 40 and 60 g/l) and calcium chloride (0, 5, 10 and 15 g/l). Both sucrose and CaCl2 were sprayed to buds and leaves in bud stage. After harvesting the flowers, vase life and visual characteristics of cut flowers such as stem height and diameter and chlorophyll index were measured. Then soluble carbohydrate and calcium concentration of rose flowers and leaves were determined. In cv "Black Magic sucrose concentration at 40 g/l increased significantly carbohydrate concentration in leaves and flower longevity. The longest vase life (17.9 day) resulted in 40 g/l treatment, that was 5.7 more than that control. In both cvs, foliar application of CaCl2 increased calcium concentration in petals and leaves, but had no affect on vase life of cut roses. In cv "Red Star" sucrose treatment had no effect on carbohydrate concentration and longevity of cut roses. In addition, visual characteristics were not affected by sucrose and calcium treatments. Thus, spraying roses with sucrose at 40 g/l concentration on budding stage would be recommended to increase vase life of cv "Black Magic". Moreover, foliar application of CaCl2 at 5 g/l concentration for cv "Red Star" and 15 g/l for cv "Black Magic" in budding age may be useful for preventing the calcium deficiency risk
