Bloomcraft was a New York City-based furnishing fabrics company that in its prime from the 1940s through the 1980s produced an immense body of work, both in scope of design and breadth of their reach to average middle-class consumers. Yet its products have been overlooked as a cohesive body of work by one company, and very attention is given to the company in discussions of twentieth-century textiles. This research paper seeks to uncover and illuminate how Bloomcraft created good design, on a mass-production scale. By examining the company's in-house design and its work with artists, designers and celebrities, it is demonstrated that Bloomcraft was indeed an important purveyor of fabrics with quality designs that were mass produced and disseminated broadly due to their affordable price point.
