Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is widely known as one of the most common causes of death in the United States (Centers of Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2015). Uncontrolled CVD can be incredibly dangerous and may possibly lead to future cardiac arrest and deadly arrhythmias (CDC, 2015). It is of the utmost importance that the risk for CVD is identified so that one might make lifestyle modifications to prevent negative outcomes from occurring (WHO, 2017). There is significant data demonstrating the need for a new healthcare reform to address current CVD complications, risk, and prevention. The purpose of this quality improvement project was to incorporate positive lifestyle modifications through health coaching to help patients with a history of hypertension to lower their CVD risk. This clinical scholarly project had one primary finding which revealed a significant reduction in CVD risk with the use of health coaching. There was also a statistically significant increase in hypertension knowledge. In addition, a statistically significant drop in systolic and diastolic blood pressure readings was noted at the post intervention visit.
