The religious movement initiated by Caitanya differs from others by its strong emotionalism. It has been criticized for its lack of rational analysis and its neglect of ethical theory. Its strength, however, lies in its systematics of an education of emotions, which, far from being atavistic residues, are increasingly recognized as central to a truly human life. The essay argues that Gaudiya Vaisnavism can make an important contribution to contemporary life through its systematic efforts at educating human emotions.
