The purpose of this study is to build a library of flood inundation extent in Bangladesh based on river height gauge levels, satellite imagery, and digital elevation models. The ability to forecast the extent of inundation during floods will help decision-makers to manage extreme flooding events more effectively. Three different floods, which occurred in 2003, 2007, and 2016, were considered for this study. Satellite images from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS), Advanced Land Observation Satellite (ALOS) digital elevation models, and river-level gauge height data from the Bangladesh Water Development Board were used to complete this study. The spatial configuration between features within the inundated area was explored using an inverse distance weighting (IDW) technique. One of the principle findings of this study is that lower elevation and proximity to stream channel indicates higher flood risk.
