The place of newspaper in the development of any society cannot be underestimated. However, such role would be meaningless if no one reads the paper, be it print or online. This underscores the need for this research, as there appears to be dearth of studies in Nigeria, with a focus on newspaper readership among senior secondary school teachers, who are expected to inculcate reading culture in their students. Using five research objectives and questions, the study employed survey design and simple random sampling technique. The study was driven by Uses and Gratifications and Media Dependency theories. Also, a structured questionnaire was employed for the collection of data from278 sampled respondents drawn from stratified population of 1029 senior secondary teachers cutting across the three senatorial districts of Kwara State. With 276 copies of the questionnaire retrieved, analytical techniques, covering Pearson's Product-Moment Correlation and descriptive statistics were used for the data analyses. It was found that a vast majority of the participants read newspaper but with preference for the online medium. Conversely, the study also found that a little more than 35 per cent of the respondents did not read newspaper at all, due, in part, to its non-inclusion in the school curriculum. Again, the results of the hypotheses tested showed that there was a significant relationship between readership of hardcopy and its predictors, ditto for the online medium and its predictors. However, no such relationship existed between income and newspaper readership. The study, therefore, recommends among other things, that more attention be paid to newspaper readership by senior secondary school teachers, and that newspaper reading hour be included in the senior secondary school curriculum, for enhanced educational standard.
