Introduction: One of the most important agent of Iranian death is driving accident. There are various factors in driving accidents however the human factors are the main influencing factor and are responsible for the highest percentage of driving accidents. The aim of this research is identifying personality traits and function of attention in high risk drivers. So this Case-control research , compares Personality traits and function of attention in two groups of high risk drivers and normal ones. Statistical Society contains male rivers who are between 20-60 years ol an rives cars in Tehran, Province.Method: Using simple random sampling, 50 high risk male drivers were selected whose cars or licentiates have been arrested by traffic staff in Tehran. Also in control group, 50 male drivers were selected who had no violations in their records. They were selected from 10 taxi services in Tehran. Personality traits of the two group were measured by NEO PI-R test with 240 questions and function of attention was measured by CPT (Continuous Performance Test). Data were analyzed by Chi-square test , Analysis of covariance an discriminant analysis Results: The finings illustrated that in personality factors there were a significant differentiation between high risk an normal drivers in Neuroticism, Extraversion, Openness and conscience. In Neuroticism and Extraversion, high risk drivers had higher scores than normal drivers (P< 0.01). Whereas in Openness and conscience normal drivers had higher scores (P< 0.01). Surprisingly in Agreeableness there was no significant difference between the two groups. In function of attention there was a significant difference between high risk an normal drivers. In comission error, omission error an reaction time indexes high risk drivers had higher scores than normal drivers (P< 0.01). whereas in correct detection normal drivers had higher scores than high risk drivers(P< 0.01). in discriminant analysis findings showed 71.74 of the variance was due to joining in to groupsConclusion: The Finings demonstrated that there were significant differences between high risk an normal drivers in personality traits and attention . Therefore it is recommended to perform psychological assessments at the time of granting riving licenses an periodically thereafter and provide trainings for high risk drivers. Keywords: Personality, Attention, driving accident, CPT, NEO PI-R
