Abstract The current study investigates the effect of seismic loads on shallow foundations located on sandy soil containing an intermediate soft clay layer. A three-dimensional PLAXIS 3D has been used in this study to simulate the seismic load's effect on a shallow foundation using real data of earthquakes that are input as time acceleration data. PLAXIS is a geotechnical tool, which has been used to solve many geotechnical issues. The purpose of evaluating the presence of a clay layer on a shallow foundation under the effect of an earthquake. The existence of a soft soil layer can affect the propagation of the received waves from the bedrock, certainly changing the ground motions and soil dynamic behavior. The study demonstrated the PLAXIS 3D finite element program's scalability in the shallow base analysis under seismic waves. A database was created for the various dynamic and static parameters of soils in seismically active areas of Iran and Iraq, and the database was then used to analyze a three-dimensional shallow foundation structure under dynamic loading. The effect of certain variables on the dynamic behavior of the shallow base, as foundation stiffness, damping ratio, and the effect of earthquake acceleration time records, was studied using a parametric approach. Rocking shallow foundations can be engineered to provide energy dissipation and recentering while causing minimal permanent damage. Varies soil profiles, structural properties, and ground motions to study Specific response aspects while still contributing to the greater goal of understanding and predicting dynamic rocking shallow foundation results.
