Reverse osmosis (RO) water treatment systems are among the most widely used membrane separation methods used in industry for water desalination. On the other hand, high operating costs and membrane fouling are the main problems of this technology. For RO systems to operate optimally, they are designed in static conditions and do not affect changes in operating conditions over time, especially membrane fouling that occurs during machine operation. Models that can realistically consider the effect of different parameters on the product and examine system changes over time will be very effective in predicting and preventing potential problems and controlling the system moment for optimal operation. In this study, the artificial neural network (ANN) model has been used to model the RO system to predict the output parameters and the membrane fouling. In the first stage, to train the neural network model, the data of the operating industrial RO plant with a capacity of 300 cubic meters per day as well as the data of the reverse osmosis industrial systems design software (WAVE) were used. 4 parameters of flow, concentration and pressure of feed water are used as model inputs and four parameters of flow and concentration of permeate in addition to flow and pressure of concentrate are used as model outputs. The obtained results have an accuracy of 98% in order to calculate and predict the output values. For predicting the membrane fouling according to the trend of operational parameters, the operational data of the industrial device, including flow rate, concentration, and pressure of inlet water, flow and concentration of permeate, flow and pressure of concentrate, as well as operating time of the device were used. The model was able to predict the membrane fouling with 99% accuracy following the actual data in the fouling diagnosis. In the next step, only the operational data of feed water, including flow rate, concentration, and pressure, in addition to the plant's operating hours, were used to predict fouling, which prediction accuracy calculated to be 95%.
