Recognizing the intentions of people in different walking states is the most basic step in developing online Brain-Computer Interfaces in this area. In this regard, this study detects, and classifies people's intentions based on the EEG signal, To change the step length, and step rate, which are key factors in helping to maintain balance during walking.EEGLAB toolbox was used to remove noise. To reduce the data volume, and improve the system performance, appropriate channels were selected and an algorithm based on variance difference was used to select the channels. The CSP algorithm was used to convert and reduce the data. The variance was used as a feature, and the FDR and ANOVA statistical algorithms were used to select the features that have more difference between classes and were finally classified by the two classifiers of Support Vector Machine and Naïve Bayes. In this study, two binary classifiers, and one three-class classifier were designed. The first binary classifier with 75.26% accuracy detected the intention of the person to move with the previous step length, and step rate or the intention to change these parameters. The next classifier detected the intention to change the parameter into two groups of step length increase, and step rate reduction or vice versa, the accuracy of 82.14% were obtained in this classification. Also, a three-class classifier was designed to divide these three groups, which achieved an accuracy of 65.88% for this classifier. After examining the different time intervals, the classifier was able to detect the intention with acceptable accuracy in 234 milliseconds. The results show that it is possible to detect the intention of individuals to change the two parameters of step length and step rate based on the EEG signal and introduces an efficient algorithm to do this. This study designs a Brain-Computer Interface that can help individuals with changing walking step length, and step rate to adjust the body's center of gravity when walking, based on their brain signal, and reduce the chance of falling, and increase their quality of life.
