SUMMARY OR ABSTRACT
Text of Note
Azotobacter is one of N۲-fixing free-living bacteria which is used as a biofertilizer in some countries. In this research the relationship between population of A. chroococcum in two sites in Azarbaijan ( Mishou-dagh and Khajdeh ) and various soil factors and the type of vegetation were investigated. Results showed that in Mishou-dagh population of Azotobacter was positively correlated with the type of vegetation and amount of organic carbon in soil. Soil pH in Khajdeh showed a significant negative correlation with the population of bacteria. In this area, similar to Mishou-dagh, the population of bacteria showed significant positive correlation with the amount of organic carbon. In comparsion with Khajdeh the population of Azotobactr in Mishou-dagh was higher than that in Khajdeh which could be attributed to the higher amount of organic cabon in soil and neutral pH in Mishou-dagh In this reaserch the effect of inoculation of rhizosphere with soil-isolated A.chroococcum on growth of wheat ( Triticum aestivum L.cv.Omid ) during ۵۶ days of its growth in a pot experment was also investigated. Results showed that growth of wheat plants inoculation with Azotobacter ( +A plants ) was similar to amonium nitrate-fed and higher than control plants. A higher effect of +A /+N treatments on the growth of shoot ( intendence ) and root ( significant ) comparing to +A and +N plants was attributed not only the suplementery nitrogen supply by bacteria and fertilizer, but also to the hormon production ( e. g. cytockinins ) by the bacteria. Simiar, higher chlorophyll concentration in +A plants, compared to the +N plants, could be attributed to the bacteria-drived cytockinin. A higher K ( and N ) transport to the shoot and consequently lower root proportional K and Ca in +A plants in comparsion with +A and +A/+N plants, clearly showed that +A treatment stimulate nutrients trasport to the shoot
