Currently, the stiffness method dominates the structural analysis field. However, this method is not free from limitations. An alternative formulation is needed so that the solutions generated by the stiffness method can be compared and qualified. In recent years, a novel formulation termed "integrated force method" has been developed. In this method, all independent internal forces are treated as unkown variables that can be calculated by simultaneously imposing equations of equilibrium and compatibility conditions. In this study, a finite element library for analyzing two dimensional problems by the Integrated Force Method is developed. Static and free vibration analysis of different types of structures is carried out using this library, and the results are compared with corresponding analytical solutions and with results from the standard stiffness method and SAP2000 software.Test examples show that the integrated force method yields accurate responses for stresses, displacements and natural frequencies even for very coarse finite element models. The stiffness method requires a much finer mesh to match integrated force method accuracy
