SUMMARY OR ABSTRACT
Text of Note
This study focuses on the origins and development of the conflict which arose between the Ottomans and the Safavids, starting with the conditions which accompanied the rise of the Safavid dynasty in Iran at the dawn of the sixteenth century, to the conclusion of the treaty of Amasya between these two antagonists in 962/1555. This conflict is deeply rooted in the events which took place in western Asia and which were, to a large extent, the result of the devastating campaigns of Timur (771-807 / 1370-1405) in the area.
