چکیده (انگلیسی): Abstract "What is the meaning of life?" is a vague question to which human beings have always wished to answer. Human mind has long encountered fundamental questions concerning existence. Questions revolving around existing and being in this world are, in today's human thought, embedded in a question of the meaning of life. Garrett Thomson, a contemporary American philosopher, has dealt with philosophical aspects of the meaning of life for many years. He has presented his main views on the issue in his book On the Meaning of Life. He has classified answers to the said question into three categories. On the basis of his classification, discussions of this dissertation are divided into three parts: first, relation of the meaning of life with the existence of God and purposefulness of the world; second, relationship between the meaning of life and instrumental and non-instrumental values; and third, relation of the meaning of life with expressive values. In this dissertation, based on the book On the Meaning of Life, it is attempted to put forward an insightful interpretation of Thomson's views and to appraise them in contrast with other thinkers' opinions on God, morality and the meaning of life.
