This contribution to World into Globe points to some significant changes that have taken place in the study of history. Historians since the 1990s have been keenly interested in global and transnational themes, including economic globalization, migrations, and human rights. The result has been to “de-center” the nation as the key framework for analysis and to propose alternative chronologies to the one that has been determined by developments in the modern West.
