ASTM, 1883-16: Standard test method for CBR )California Bearing Ratio( of laboratory-compacted soils, Annual Book of ASTM Standards, vol. 4, 1883. Abstract The general aim of soil treatment is to improve some geotechnical problems such as decreasing changes in foundation's settlements, improving the subgrade's mechanical parameters, enhancing soil's compaction and strength )bearing capacity and shear strength(, improving soil's erosion resistance, decreasing hydraulic conductivity )permeability( and the soil's seepage. Traditional chemical modification )using cement and lime( has numerous environmental shortcomings. Desert sandy soils have no intergranular adhesion, uniform granulation, high subsidence and low geotechnical strength, which are also major problems of desert soils. In addition to the above, these soils are prone to wind erosion, which can lead to reduced visibility, health problems and lack of vegetation. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the geotechnical parameters of loose grain soils and desert sand. A lot of biopolymers like xanthan gum, chitosan, guar gum, gellan gum, alginate, casein and Carboxymethylcellulose have been used to modify the geotechnical parameters of soils. Due to its various applications in different industries, glaucomanan gum has the ability to increase soil resistance. For this reason, in the present dissertation, the effect of using this material and the optimal amount of its use in the sandy sandy soil of Maranjab's desert to improve the mechanical properties of the soil have been investigated. For this purpose, a number of classic soil mechanics experiments were planned and performed. Finally, the results showed that the addition of Konjac glucomannan biopolymer to desert sandy soil significantly increases the values of compressive strength and improves soil shear strength parameters such as increasing the friction angle and soil cohesion and also increases the California load-bearing ratio of the soil.
