Positioning targets via measuring the sensing time of propagated waves in the environment by a few sensing devices have many applications. One is acoustic target localization in a two-dimensional environment by wireless sensor networks (WSN). In this regard, the problem of the two-dimensional localization of the target has been modeled using traditional algebraic and geometric models. These models helped prove that, contrary to popular belief, the three-sensing coverage degree cannot calculate the exact Spatio-temporal information of the target object in two-dimensional acoustic target localization. Only parts of the area under three-sensing coverage can accurately localize the target object. Target localization's computation will produce dual answers in the remaining regions, so detecting the correct answer is impossible. The characteristic equations of these new boundary curves have been extracted. This thesis will use these characteristic equations to improve target localization accuracy. In this thesis, we use the Imperialist Competitive Algorithm (ICA) as a meta-heuristic method to find near-optimal solutions for optimizing the placement of sensor nodes to increase the target localization accuracy. We assume a rectangular environment with a predefined dimension and a predefined number of sensor nodes whose sensing and communication radius is known. Then we try to find near-optimal places for sensor nodes such that, according to mentioned characteristic equations, maximize the percentage of area that can accurately localize the target object. We also will set up numerous optimization scenarios to find a formula or draw a diagram to represent the relationship between the number of sensor nodes, the dimension of the square-shaped environment, and the sensing radius of sensor nodes. We use the Matlab tool for optimization simulation scenarios by parallel Matlab code on a multicore Intel Core-i7 laptop.
