C, salinity from 0 to 180,000 ppm and pressure from 1 to 2000 psi by gravimetric method. In all the studied conditions, nanocomposite PPG showed higher swelling compared to ordinary PPG. Temperature had an increasing effect and pressure had a slight decreasing effect on the swelling ratio of the gel particles. An equation was developed to calculate the swelling ratio of both types of gels as a function of time under different conditions of temperature, pressure and salt concentration. The interaction of gel particles with oil was investigated through analysing the emulsion phase created between oil and PPG suspension. The results showed that PPG suspension in low salinity water (0 to 20,000 ppm) produced more emulsion in contact with oil than the high salinity (up to 180,000 ppm) or low salinity water without PPG. In addition, the amount of emulsion with OG was between 0.6 and 1.9 less than that with NCG . In the contact angle experiments, the highest change in wettability of oil wet rocks was observed using nanocomposite PPG and distilled water (with a wettability alteration index of 0.65) and the smallest change using brine with the maximum salinity of 180,000 ppm without nanogel particles (with a wettability alteration index of 0.2). In addition, experiments showed that the pH of brine containing gel particles increased between 1 and 2 units after contacting with oil-saturated sandstone. Medium-sized nanocomposite PPGs (75-125m) showed more efficient plugging compared with small-sized particles (53-75m) or large-sized particles (125-180m) in LSW-PPG flooding tests in sandpacks with the permeability near 8D. Using NCG with low salinity water (4000 ppm) in parallel sandpack model, showed better performance in oil production compared with OG particles or high salinity water (40,000 and 20,000 ppm).░ Polymeric microgels, especially preformed particle gels (PPGs), are known as an effective way to control conformance, reduce water production and increase oil production in mature oil reservoirs. The primary purpose of this study is to synthesize and investigate the properties of a new type of microgel called nanocomposite PPG, which is expected to perform better than conventional types, especially in contact with high salinity waters. The method of synthesis of nanocomposite gel particles, including making nanogels by inverse microemulsion method and then using them to make gel particles by solution method was invented. Scanning electron microscopy was used to determine the shape and size of nanogel particles and some other tests were performed to optimize the composition of the gellant used to prepare the gel particles. Swelling ratio of acrylamide ordinary gel and nanocomposite gel was measured in the temperature range of 25 to 80
