Al-Ḥasan b. Muḥammad (1929-99), known by his regnal name Ḥasan II , was king of Morocco from 1961 to 1999. He was born on the 9 July 1929 in Rabat, the first son of Lalla ʿAbla bt. Ṭāhir, the second wife of the sultan (and later king) Muḥammad b. Yūsuf (r. 1927-61, known as Muḥammad V). The heir apparent was educated in the royal palace in Rabat under his father's watchful eye, following a classical Arabic curriculum along with modern sciences and languages.
