ʿAlī b. Maymūn al-Fāsī al-Ghumārī (854-917/1450-1511) was a Moroccan ʿālim and Ṣūfī whose spiritual career unfolded in the Middle East. Born in the region of Ghumārā (north Morocco), he studied Islamic sciences locally, then in Fez, from 876/1471. He held the office of qāḍī in Chefchaouen for a period of ten years (890-900). In search of a Ṣūfī master, he left Morocco to join Shaykh Abū l-ʿAbbās al-Tibbāsī (d. 930/1523) near Tozeur (Tūzar, now in Tunisia) in 902/1497. For
