Intangible assets constitute major resources in the university's system. However, little or no attention has been given to effective utilization of these resources. This has not only affects the performance of the public universities in Nigeria adversely but also the economic development of the country. Hence, this study examined the effect of intellectual capital management on the performance of public universities in South-Western Nigeria. Primary data were obtained through the administration of structured questionnaire to randomly selected four hundred and twenty-four (424) respondents out of nine hundred and eighty-two respondents. Inferential statistical tool employed to analyzed data collected was multiple regression analysis (Ordinary Least Square). The result of the study revealed that human capital management, structural capital management and relational capital management have significant positive effect on the performance of public universities in the South-Western Nigeria as indicated by p-values of 0.000; 0.000 and 0.001 respectively. The result also shows that interaction between human and structural intellectual capital management and the interaction between human and relational intellectual capital management have significant positive effect on the performance of public universities in the South-Western Nigeria while the interaction between structural intellectual capital management and relational intellectual capital management has no significant positive effect on the performance of public universities in the South-Western Nigeria as indicated by p-values of 0.000; 0.002 and 0.139 respectively. This study therefore concluded that intellectual capital management improves the performance of public universities in the South-Western Nigeria. This study recommends that the policy makers and management of universities should emphasize more on providing support and incentives that would continue to encourage the staff to put more efforts in terms of lecturing service and publications so as to impart knowledge on the students effectively.
