Results from discriminant analysis of cigarette dependence diagnosis by personality dimensions show that low self-directedness is the main predictor of cigarette dependence diagnosis. Also according to the results from simultaneous multivariate regression analysis of cigarette dependence severity on personality dimensions, high harm-avoidance and low self-directedness are the main predictors of cigarette dependence severity. In general, present study found that cigarette dependence syndrome has a unidimensional structure; DSM-IV criteria for dependency demonstrate higher levels of information at the middle range and more severe end of cigarette dependency continuum, and yet there is a need to identify and introduce more suitable criteria for the mild range of the 159 severity continuum; and finally demographic variables, smoking and quitting history, and personality dimensions can significantly predict both cigarette dependence diagnosis and severity.Key Words: cigarette dependence, dimensional diagnosis, Item-Response theory پdecision to quit smoking in pastب‍ criteria fall in the middle range of the severity continuum; and three tolerance, time spent and activities given up fall along the more severe end of the dependence severity continuum. Although five proposed items could present some additional information in the mild end of the severity continuum, but these additional information were not so great and noticeable. Results from logistic regression of cigarette dependence diagnosis on demographic variables and smoking and quitting history show that the پquit/controlب‍ and پwithdrawalب‍ ;criteria fall along the mild end of the dependence severity continuum پphysical/psychological consequencesب‍ and پlarger/longerب‍ This study was aimed to investigate into the dimensional structure of cigarette dependence syndrome and determining the relations of cigarette dependence severity with personality dimensions according to the seven-factor model of personality. 302 male cigarette smokers from Qazvin city, with ages ranging from 15 to 84 years old, and with different educational levels completed an inventory including demographic variables, smoking and quitting history, TTURC nicotine dependence inventory, and five proposed items for the mild end of the cigarette dependence severity continuum. Also 151 participants from 302 noted participants simultaneously completed the short form of temperament and character inventory (TCI-125). Exploratory factor analysis on cigarette dependency criteria extracted two strongly correlated factors on a common underlying dimension. Based on these extracted factors two distinct type of cigarette consuming were introduced in present study. Results from Item-Response analysis show that
