dimensional equations are derived. Then, by building a physical model, the effect of various parameters, including side slope of channel (Z), discharge ratio (Qr), and downstream Froude number, on the parameters in a perpendicular confluence is investigated. The experiments were done in two parts including hydraulics and sediment experiments. For hydraulic and sediment part, 32 and 64 experiments were done respectively. The measurements of water level profile during main canal showed that with increasing the distance from beginning of main canal, the height of water surface was reduced. Water surface suddenly reduced in the location of canal confluence. The results of experiment on relative depth of flow showed that the ration of main canal flow depth to downstream depth and ratio of flow depth in lateral canal to downstream depth is higher than 1. The results of experiment based on the dimension of flow separation zone indicated that with increasing discharge ratio, the length of separation zone is increased. Furthermore, with increasing Froude number value, the length of separation zone is decreased. The variation of width of flow separation zone for different Froud numbers and various discharges ratio indicated that with increasing froud number the width of separation zone is decreased. Furthermore, the comparison results showed that the length and width of separation zone for 45 degree side slope was more than 90 degree. The variation of maximum scour depth relative to froud number for different froud numbers and various discharges ratio showed that with increasing froud number, the maximum relative scour depth is increased. Furthermore, this procedure was obvious with increasing discharge ratio. Also, for a fixed froud number, with decreasing the degree of side slope, maximum relative scour depth is decreased. The variation of maximum height of sedimentation relative to Froude number showed that with increasing Froude number, relative height of sedimentation decreased. Also, with movement from 45 degree toward 90 degree slope, the height of sedimentation is decreased -river confluences are an important issue in open channel studies. Existence of scour holes and depositional bar is directly related to flow pattern in river confluence zone. In channel junction zone, the flow pattern is very complex as a function of different parameters. In current research, the effect of 45 degree side slope in main channel on velocity distribution, water surface profile and dimension of separation zone at a 90 degree junction was investigated and compared with those at a 90 degree side slope.
