#This is a study of the Kert dynasty )1245-1381(, one of the small polities that flourished in Iran at a time of weak central authority following the Mongol invasion. The Karts were an anomaly in being a Tajik, or native Persian, dyasty at a Time Mongols and Turks dominated the Iranian world. They ruled a compact area from their capital at Herat, in present- day western Afghanistan. Despite their importance, until now the Karts have been ignored by western scholars and credit for their achievements has usually gone to their more famous successors, the Timurids
