#The purpose of this study was to give a comperhensive exposition of the reforms in education in Iran. An analysis was made of the decentralization process and its strenghth and weaknesses . Iran's traditional education system reflected the economic social, political and cultural bases of the society. although the first majer step toward decentralization was taken in the right direction by establishing local school boards, the quality of secondary education declined even further. The first step toward a new educastional system had been taken. At this point a plan which will encompass the basic beliefs of the people needed to be prepared and implememented.
