Studies have shown that 6000 to 10,000 churches are dying in North America every year. In addition, the attitudes of the general public toward organized worship is changing, leading to a growing segment of younger population who do not attend church. Yet, the Bible tells us that "it is the Spirit that gives life" (John 6:63). I began to wonder if the decline of the church corresponds with the decline of, or retreat from, the use of the gifts of the Holy Spirit (chief of which is prophecy. See 1 Cor. 14:1-5) in worship services and Christian gatherings? The objective of the research was to determine whether the inclusion of prophecy and prophetic ministry could change the trajectory of a dying church.
