The purpose of this qualitative classical Delphi study was to build consensus among a panel of military and defense experts as to a full range of desirable and feasible operations for an independent space branch within the Department of the United States Army (USA). Through a literature review of the current organizational space force structure, this study established adversarial threats the United States faces. Conducting this Delphi study with current and former space professionals from the U.S. Air Force (USAF) National Security Space Institute (NSSI), USAF Advanced Space Operations School (ASOpS), and the USA Space and Missile Defense Command (SMDC) helped to determine how the current space organizational structure affected the new battlefield in space while supporting the warfighter. The data collected from this Delphi study and the literature review may help determine if the structure in place can support military operations against our adversaries while providing a path to future research. The outcome and findings of this qualitative Delphi study could influence the Department of Defense and Department of the U.S. Army in either creating a new space branch or restructuring the space capabilities currently in place.
