Corrugated waveguides are important in the design and development of many devices in Optical Electronics. The input-output characteristics of the TE0 mode in a finitely-corrugated dielectric waveguide are studied by the Finite-Difference Time-Domain method and the Method of Lines. The basic parameters of a corrugated waveguide are: the period of the corrugation, the number of spatial periods, the depth of the corrugation, the width of the unperturbed waveguide and the associated refractive index distribution of the waveguide. The effects of these parameters on the reflected, the transmitted and the radiated powers are studied. The influence of nonuniform spatial segments on the spectral response of a corrugated waveguide is obtained. The effect of having loss in such waveguides is also shown. A comparison of results with a one-dimensional model of the waveguides is investigated and its limitation pointed out.
