The interaction of several pathogens with eimerian species of parasites was investigated in chickens and turkeys. No synergistic effect on mortality, weight gain or oocyst production during mixed infections of Trichomonas gallinarum and Eimeria adenoids in turkeys. There did however, appear to be a trend of larger numbers of T. gallinarum being present as well as both ceca being infected when E. adenoides was present. Poults receiving newly larvated Ascaridia dissimilis at days 3, 0 and +3 and receiving Eimeria meleagrimitis had lower oocyst production than birds receiving E. meleagrimitis alone. Poults receiving 100 day old larvated A. dissimilis ova at days 3 or +3 produced fewer oocysts than birds receiving both pathogens on the same day. The method of using Spleen Weight:Gain Index proved to be the most useful in assessing concurrent infections of Hemorrhagic Enteritis Virus (HEV) or Marble Spleen Virus (MSV) and E. meleagrimitis in turkeys. The combination of either virus and E. meleagrimitis had an effect on weight gain in that these birds gained more weight than those receiving only the HEV. Birds receiving the combination of MSV and E. meleagrimitis also had fewer oocysts present in their intestines whereas no difference could be discerned when fecal samples were processed and examined for oocysts.
