Abū l-Qāsim ʿUbaydallāh b. ʿAbdallāh (or Aḥmad) Ibn Khurdādhbih (or Khurradādhbih; fl. third/ninth century) was a high-ranking Persian functionary, littérateur, and courtier in the ʿAbbāsid administration, most famous for his administrative geography, Kitāb al-masālik wa-l-mamālik ("The book of routes and realms"), the earliest Arabic work of its kind to survive, albeit in an abridged state. 1. Name Ibn Khurdādhbih's biography is incomplete. The statement by Ḥājjī Khalīfa (Kātib Çelebi, d. 1067/1657) that he died around 300/913 is pure conjecture (1:278).
