Azimuth is a modern astronomical term marking, in the horizon coordinate system, the angle along the horizon in a clockwise direction from the south or north point to the point where a vertical arc through the zenith (samt al-raʾs or al-ruʾūs) and a celestial body, such as the sun or a star, intersects with the horizon.
