Mukhtār Aḥmad Anṣārī (1880-1936) was a medical doctor who gained national prominence as the president of the Indian National Congress (founded in 1885) and the chief protagonist of secular nationalism. He claimed to be a descendant of Abū Ayyūb al-Anṣārī (d. 52/672), a warrior and a venturesome conqueror who, when fighting across the Bosporus at the age of ninety or more, died and, as he had requested, was buried at Constantinople.
