Aḥmad b. Yaḥyā, Ḥamīd al-Dīn (d. 1962) was the eldest son of Imām al-Mutawakkil Yaḥyā (c. 1869-1948) and the last de facto imām and king of Yemen (r. 1948-62). Aḥmad was learned, having received a traditional religious education, and was noted for his oratory and physical presence. He was declared crown prince in 1924-one of the first acts foreshadowing the change of the Zaydī imāmate into a kingdom and a modern nation-state.
