Aminu Kano (1920-April 17, 1983) was a Muslim teacher ( mallam , Ar. muʿallim ) and opposition political leader from Kano, the major metropolitan centre of northern Nigeria, during the transition from British colonial rule to independence, and during the transitions from the First Republic (1960-6), through military rule and the civil war, into the Second Republic (1979-83).
