There is an increasing recognition on the needs of older adults with disabilities which has resulted into a growing demand of insights into the condition of disabled by the academicians and planners. So this thesis makes an effort to highlight the multiple dimensions of lives of the disabled older adults. The spectrum of the dimensions of the life of older adults covered in this thesis ranges from the effect of socioeconomic factors on disability to the overall quality of life of the older adults. It also throws light on various aspects such as effect of diseases on the incidence of disability; health system responsiveness; and the effect of disability on social cohesion. Summary scores, such as, disability scores, health system responsiveness scores and social cohesion scores have been constructed by using Item Response Theory Partial Credit Model. Logistic regressions, ordinary least square regression, path analysis have been applied as per the requirement and suitability of the analysis. Further, concentration curves (CC), concentration indices (CI) and adjusted concentration indices have also been applied. The data has been utilized from the Study on Global Ageing and Adult Health (SAGE) 2007-10. Some important findings which have emerged from this thesis are: female are at a disadvantageous position in terms of suffering from disability. Wealth based inequality in occurrence of disability is significant with poorer older adults at the receiving end. There are significant differences in the prevalence of disability among those who are suffering from selected diseases and those who are not suffering from any diseases across the countries. As per the analysis, Mexican health system is found to be the most responsive towards the older adults among the selected countries. The health system responsiveness score (HSRS) was found to be lower for the disabled older adults as compared to the non-disabled older adults in all the countries except Mexico. Social cohesion score is significantly higher for the population free from disability as compared to the population who is suffering from disability. Similarly, prevalence of high quality of life is significantly higher among non-disabled older adults as compared to their disabled counterparts for all the selected countries. The alarming level of pathetic situation of disabled older adults calls for immediate attention in terms of detailed study of risk factors, effective policy and timely intervention.
