The place of Information Technology (IT) resources and capabilities in the financial system has become prominent, especially in developing countries like Nigeria. The global nature of financial institutions and transactions makes the shortage of IT resources and capabilities a critical concern in some developing countries like Nigeria. The objective of this study is to conduct an assessment of the resources and capabilities in IT project implementation geared toward organizational performance in Nigerian banks. The study provides answers to three research questions: What is the relationship between IT managerial resources and capabilities and organizational effectiveness in the financial sector in Nigeria? What is the relationship between IT resources/capability and IT project implementation success in Nigerian commercial banks? What is the relationship between IT project implementation success and organizational effectiveness in Nigerian commercial banks? The survey-based study encompassed a sample size of 60 participants purposively sampled in a major city in Nigeria. Different analytical techniques were used to analyze the data, test the hypotheses, and provide answers to the research questions, including descriptive and correlation analyses. The descriptive analysis helped position the respondent's details used in the study. The correlation analysis illustrated the association between variables and the influence of one variable on the other. From the analysis, the majority of IT professionals were members of an IT professional association and were around 40 years of age. Most of the respondents also had 3 to 5 years of working experience in their respective commercial banks within a major city in Nigeria. The Pearson correlation analysis indicated that IT resources and capabilities influence organizational effectiveness significantly among Nigerian banks, which is represented as, r (58) = .396, N = 60, p = .002. The sample size (N) was 60, which resulted in a degree of freedom (df) for r of 58 in the equation (N-2). The correlation analysis also confirmed that there is a significant relationship, which is shown as, r (58) = .486, p < .001 between IT resources/capability and IT project implementation success in Nigerian commercial banks. Further, there is a significant effect, which is r (58) = 0.313, N = 60, p = 0.015 between IT project implementation success and organizational effectiveness in Nigerian commercial banks. At the same time, enterprise resource planning (ERP) individual user satisfaction has a positive significance; r (58) = .724, N = 60, p < .001, illustrating the impact on organizational performance in the Nigerian banking sector. The analysis concludes that IT resources and capability are essential to IT project implementation success and consequently affect organizational performance in the Nigerian banking sector.
