Russia, China, and Iran are major cyber adversaries to the United States (US), and their capabilities and focus on United States society and infrastructure have become more prevalent. Russia, China, and Iran have used their cyber capabilities to manipulate or disrupt the political, cultural, and racial landscape within the US. These disinformation campaigns were achieved by using proxies, government officials and representatives, deploying automated social media bot accounts, and operating troll factories. The research reviewed the threats that these campaigns posed, some of which are ongoing, and the government responses and policies. The research also examined the relationships between tech companies and the government from different countries, including the US, to determine how their cooperation or lack thereof impacts their responses to disinformation. Recommendations included creating and funding strategic communication methods between the US government and citizens to increase awareness of these disinformation campaigns, funding government entities, such as the US Department of State's Global Engagement Center, executing counter operations within adversarial countries responsible for disinformation campaigns in the US, and building better relationships between the US and social media companies.
