The current study's aim was to explore and examine the role of Nigerian traditional healers in Nigeria as Nigerians tend to approach traditional healers for support with their physical and psychological distresses. Nine healers were interviewed about their background, traditional healing processes and their thoughts on collaboration with Nigerian mainstream healthcare practitioners. Using narrative inquiry, the study revealed that Nigerian traditional healers closely follow Nigerian cultural norms in their practices such as eziokwu, ofo and will of the ancestral spirits. Although in practice, direct collaboration between conventional healthcare system and traditional healers is rare, Nigerian traditional healers expressed willingness to collaborate with other healthcare practitioners in order to benefit their patients. The findings suggest that an exploration of the field of African indigenous healing holds great significance for healthcare systems, research and education.
