The diary of Sebastian (1907-1945), a Romanian Jewish writer living in Bucharest from the late 1920s. His everyday reflections and testimonies include many references to the growing antisemitism in the country, the effects of the anti-Jewish legislation, especially during the Antonescu period, details of the pogrom in Bucharest carried out by the Iron Guard in January 1941, as well as information on the mass deportation and massacres of Jews in Bessarabia, Bukovina, and Transnistria. Mentions, frequently, significant incidents and discussions showing the pro-Iron Guard and antisemitic attitudes of some of his colleagues and friends, especially the philosopher Nae Ionescu, and the young writer and scholar Mircea Eliade.
