Fracture as a part of mechanics of engineering was introduced in the 1950s by Mr. Georg Rirwin at the Naval Research Laboratory. Years later, in the 1960s, fracture mechanics concepts were developed during research in universities and research centres. Fracture mechanics principles in engineering design have several applications including failure analysis, structural movement and predict fatigue crack propagation. Given that 80% of failures are brittle roots in the use of fracture mechanics fatigue crack propagation can be helpful. In this research, we tried to introduce the basic concepts of fracture mechanics and its application in concrete pavement. Results showed that by determining new relation for crack propagation the production of this phenomenon has 11% more accuracy compare to previous methods.
