The number of Arab-American households has almost doubled in recent years, increasing from 268,000 in 1990 to 427,000 in 2000 (Asi & Beaulieu, 2013). This is a growing immigrant population that has not been examined thoroughly. In this dissertation, the impact of immigration on Arab fathers' parenting practices is explored. Semi-structured Interviews with nine Arab origin fathers living in the US examined how these men describe their parenting practices and gave meaning to their involvement with their children. Data was analyzed using a phenomenological framework, described by Creswell et al. (2007) as a qualitative approach that aims to describe commonalities in the ways participants experience phenomenon. The mean age for participants was 47 and the range was (36-50). Of the nine participants, eight were married and one was divorced. All fathers were fathering at least one child between the ages of 9-18. Present findings describe the important ways in which the experience of immigration influenced the parenting experiences of Arab origin fathers. Results showed the fathers to be highly involved with their children, viewed the father's role as a co-parent, and appreciated aspects of parenting in the US. Current findings challenge the traditional stereotypes that depict Arab origin fathers as authoritarian and uninvolved in child rearing. Three major clusters of themes totaling eight subthemes emerged from the interviews. These themes are discussed in detail.
