The present study aims at testing the tentative relation between the students' awareness of their metacognitive strategies and their performance on reading comprehension tests. Defining and elaborating of the three important factors: consciousness (sometimes referred to as awareness), metacognition and reading comprehension is of great value for this study. Therefore, the three concepts are elaborated on to gain insights. The means of assessing metacognitive awareness utilized in this study is the MARSI inventory of 30 items, which is considered as a valid means of assessing the metacognitive strategies. The aforementioned inventory assesses the three important metacognitive strategies: Global Reading Strategies, Problem-Solving Strategies and Support Reading Strategies each of which has defining factors to be gauged by means of the MARSI inventory. MARSI questionnaires ,distributed among the students, provides the teacher with valuable pieces of information about the strategies utilized by each of the students in L2 context. The participants of the study are college students at Imam Ali university. They formed two groups each including 21 students After the pretest had been administered in these two groups and the questionnaires completed the teacher gains insights about the methods to use to enhance their level of consciousness. 6 sessions of explicit teaching and discussing the metacognitive strategies, planning the students' reading procedure, testing, revising and helping them in monitoring their strategies in experimental group is considered to have a positive effect in post test administered right after the application of six session treatment..
