In order to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, hydrogen has attracted a lot of attention as a clean energy carrier. Among the various methods of hydrogen production, natural gas reforming has the largest share in the production of this gas, and in most of these processes, hydrogen is produced along with impurities such as CO2 and H2S. These gases affect the performance of palladium and its alloy membranes and cause poisoning of these membranes. In this regard, in this research, in order to be closer to the real and industrial conditions, the effect of H2S gas on the performance of the palladium-silver membrane synthesized by the new organic-inorganic method was evaluated in the presence and absence of other impurities. The performance of this membrane under a pressure of 1-3 bar, respectively, in contact with a two-component mixture containing 3 ppm H2S gas, two-component mixtures containing 5, 10, 15 and 20% argon gas, three-component mixtures containing 3 ppm H2S gas and 5, 10, 15 and 20 The percentage of argon gas, a two-component mixture containing 5% CO2 gas, a three-component mixture containing 3 ppm H2S gas and 5% CO2 gas, for two temperatures of 450°C and 500°C, and a two-component test containing 5 ppm H2S gas for a temperature of 450°C were investigated. The obtained results indicate a very insignificant effect of the desired concentration of H2S on the performance of the membrane at all operating pressures and even an increase of 8 and 2% in permeability under the two-component tests of 3 and 5 ppm H2S gas. Acid feed leads to the creation of structural stresses and as a result the increase in the volume of palladium inter-lattice sites, but the presence of a nanometer distance between the membrane layer and the support prevents the occurrence of structural defects on the membrane layer. The importance of this is proven due to the absence of argon leakage after contact with acidic H2S feeds. The structural distortion of the membrane layer leads to a slight increase in the permeability of the membrane under contact with acid gas compared to contact with pure H2. With increasing temperature, it can be seen that the amount of initial drop in contact with acid gas increases from 92.24% to 98.24% of the initial value before contact. At both desired temperatures, in the three-component feeds, the presence of argon gas prevents the occupation of more active sites by H2S gas by forming a concentration boundary layer, which reduces the permeability drop in three-component feeds compared to two-component feeds; Due to the exothermic nature of the H2S gas decomposition reaction, increasing the temperature leads to a decrease in permeability loss in three-component tests. Also, in the three-component tests containing 5% CO2 gas at the two considered temperatures, it is observed that at the beginning of the contact, the permeability loss is lower than the two-component mixture containing CO2 and more at the end of the contact, in fact, as time passes, possible side reactions have had a negative effect. The amount of this drop is less at higher temperature.
