ABSTRACT Agriculture is considered a catalyst for over all development of a nation. It is a critical sector that drives the economic and industrialization of the developing nation, and also holds the ace for reducing unemployment. Thus its development is critically important for ensuring food and nutritional security, income and employment generation and for stimulating industrialization and overall economic development of a nation. The study looked into the impact of Nigeria Fadama-III National Development project on Agropreneur's Business Development in Osun State. The broad objective of the study is to examine the impact of Nigeria Fadama National development project on Agropreneur's business development in Osun state, Nigeria. Other objectives are to: examine the impact of funding available to Agropreneur of the Fadama project on the business development, determine the level of relationship between training (Extension agents) and Agropreneur's business development, assess the impact of rural infrastructure (Road, electricity and health) on Agropreneur's business development and investigate the difference between capacity development and business performance among male and female entrepreneurs in the project. The total population of the study was Eight hundred and twenty nine (829) of Fadama users in Iwo and Ede North, however, the sample size selected was Two hundred and seventy (270).The two local governments selected represented 10% of the entire Local governments in Osun State. The two local Governments afore mentioned where selected for the stud because of their major involvement in Agro-processing and live stocks which was the Focus of the study. The survey method was used for the study Multi-stage sampling was adopted and Simple random sampling design was used in selecting the respondents. The broad objective of the study is to examine the impact of Nigeria Fadama National development project on Agropreneur's business development in Osun state, Nigeria. The study used mixed method (Quantitative and Qualitative method). The instrument used in data collection for Quantitative method was a close ended questionnaire. A well semi-structured interview was used for the Qualitative method and Nvivo software was adopted. Statistical Package for Social Sciences(SPSS 20.0) version was used for the quantitative method. Linear Regression, Multiple Regression and Anova were used to test the Hypotheses of the study. It was revealed that Ho1: Funding available to Agropreneurs under Fadama project does not have any significant impact on their business development was rejected because, Funding available to Agropreneurs under Fadama Project contributes with Beta value = .077, p > .05 and t-value = 1.264. The contribution is not statistically significant to the level of Business Development. Hence, the study concludes that fund available for Fadama has impact on Business Development in the selected area of study. To corroborate this, Interviewee 3 said "my income has doubled compared to the time I did not have the funding facility. Even if government stops the funding, I have been empowered to have savings to expand my project (farming Business)".H02: There is no significant relationship between training (extension agent) and Agropreneur's business development was rejected because Training (Extension Agents) contributes with Beta value = .078, p > .05 and t-value = 7.27. The contribution is statistically significant to the level of Agropreneur's Business Development. Hence, null hypothesis was rejected and the study concludes that there is significant relationship between training (Extension agents) and Agropreneurs business development of selected study area. To corroborate this findings the; Interviewee 1 said "When I joined the Fadama group, one of the advantages I derived was training in modern farming techniques. One that struck me particularly was innovation. Before we were taught that adequate plant population is the first step in getting higher yield, I was using 3ft x 3ft spacing on my maize farm. The Agric officers demonstrated to us that 18" x 18" is better. When I adopted this on my maize farm the population doubled but I applied more fertilizer (2bags of area and 3 bags of NPK) per ha and I got 3 ½ tonnes of shelled maize instead of 1 ½ tonnes from my old method of planting. The officers introduced new maize types (they call it hybrid) which yielded much higher than our local types and the ones we bought from the market". Hence, the study concluded that capacity building that is, training by the extension agents has really assisted them in adopting new technology in farming and animal husbandry management which led to increase in the yield from crops and expansion of their business outlets. Funding which is essential in any business was made available by Government to facilitate easy take off of farming operation has been an encouragement that strengthens the members of the farming groups achieve success in their businesses. Based on the findings of this study, the following policy recommendations for Agropreneurs business development and expansion include: Regular training for farmers to discover their skills in diversifying into various businesses within the agricultural sector using new technology should be encouraged by all stake holders in business of food security and Government should encourage farmers to source grants to enable them expand their business desires.
