This research study examines migration decision-making at the household level of Cambodian female migrant workers. It provides insight into how people perceive decision-making processes in familial and social contexts of migrant works before and after their return to country. Numerous studies have addressed gender and migration; however, few have explicitly focused on Cambodian female migrants. In addition, studies have lacked discussion on the coupling of gender and migration, especially the household-decision processes of women. A huge gap of literature remains, specifically on independent movement of migrant workers. This research is conducted via qualitative analysis. More specifically, this study addresses the contexts within which women negotiate the decision to obtain foreign employment, decision making within household, and how foreign employment affect the social and economic status of the female migrant upon her return. This research contributes to the limited literature on migration studies and migration scheme in Cambodia.
