In the Name of Love: Absolving Criminals Through the Work of Sabreena Ahmadi documents the research, writing, and revision process while writing The Absolved- a one-hour television pilot that looks into the life of an Iranian-American lawyer as she represents the unrepresented in California federal courts. Inspired by the plays Antigone by Sophocles and The Exonerated by Jessica Blank and Erik Jensen, the pilot was written over the course of three semesters, between Fall semesters 2017 and 2018. This paper chronicles the writing process during these three semesters. The writer chronicles the time she spent researching court protocol in California's federal court; the evolution of the pilot from concept to outline to script, and other background research conducted during the course of writing the pilot.
